Ed Human’s Passing

We are sad to announce the passing of Ed Human, Reservation Director from 1970-1975. Human oversaw the enormous 1972 Capital Development Campaign that not only brought permanent Program Director Cabins, Trading Post building, and Health Lodge, but resulted in the construction of Camp Craig. Human left Middle Tennessee Council and Scouting with the retirement of Council Executive Ward Akers in 1975. The following is the obituary from the TheTennessean.com.

” HUMAN, Edwin L., age 77 of Hermitage, TN, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Summit Memorial Hospital after complications following surgery. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Lou and Lillard Human of Oneida, TN. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Nell Frances (Smithson) Human; three daughters, Lisa (Larry) McCormack and Cynthia Human of Nashville, and Leann (Jack) Hilliard of Knoxville, and one grandson, Steven McCormack of Nashville. A long-standing member of Hermitage United Methodist Church, Ed also volunteered as a Flying Ace at the Nashville International Airport, and performed in plays with the Donelson Senior Center for the Arts. For nearly 20 years, he worked as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America, and served as camp director of Boxwell Boy Scout Reservation in Gallatin during the 1970s. He later worked at Temtex, Tenlite and BlackGold. He served in the US Army National Guard for 10 years. Ed graduated Oneida High School in Oneida, TN in 1952, and Middle Tennessee State College in 1956. Visitation is Wednesday, May 9th from 4 – 8 p.m., at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will be held at Hermitage United Methodist Church Thursday at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made to Hermitage United Methodist Church.”
