Cowboy Action Shooting
A reality of modern Boxwell is the need to add new programs to keep camp fresh. Over the years, this has led to the introduction of rappelling, COPE, and more High Adventure elements and different merit badges. Cubbing isn’t exempt either and aquatics and boating have flourished at CubWorld in recent years.
The newest program at Boxwell for 2019 is the Cowboy Action Shooting. Cowboy Action Shooting is generally a program for older boys and it involves different kinds of shooting in one spot. A Scout starts with a revolver, moves to a rifle, and ends with a shotgun. All on the same range. Instructors must be certified with the NRA and the range must be built with an “Old West” design. Located in the old archery range at Camp Parnell, Boxwell now has its own Cowboy Action Shooting range. And, as you can see, the Old West design is apparent. Slowly but surely, Parnell is being utilized, though in very different ways than its original intent!
