On this day–Monday, July 4, 1966–the rifle ranges at Stahlman and Parnell were dedicated. But the dedications were not to specific Scouters, but to J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI. The Nashville Banner had offered a $5000 reward to the arrest of “any person charged with having misrepresented himself as a reporter in the The Nashville Banner in connection with jury tampering efforts in the first trial of James R. Hoffa” (Banner, June 30, 1966, pg. 1). As the FBI apprehended the three men involved and could not take the money, President and Publisher of the Banner, James G. Stahlman, gave the money to two 50 foot ranges at Boxwell.
