Boxwell Reservation, 1966
After looking at the previous Boxwells last week, this week we turn our attention to the Boxwell Reservations staffs of 1966. Ward Akers was Council Executive and Bruce Atkins was Reservation Director (his first summer in the role). Richard Graves stepped in this one summer for Chester LaFever as Program Director at Stahlman and the Camp Director (a District Executive then) responsibility was shared between Bob Whittaker and Ken Goad. Camp Parnell was led by Program Director Jimmy Joe Jackson and Camp Director Ken Connelly. The Ski Dock was run by James Akers. and Camp Murrey by Elizabeth Jackson, Jimmy Joe’s wife. Bobby Smith was enjoying his first summer as the Ranger.
We don’t have staff photos from either camp for 1966. However, 1966 was the year the new rifle ranges were dedicated on July 4, 1966–to J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI (https://virtualboxwell.org/v3/blog/2021/07/04/on-this-day-july-4/).

Originally, Boxwell’s Rifle Ranges were named for J. Edgar Hoover! Sadly, we don’t know who any of these people are.
